Rumba on the River, All Rights Deserved

By A Mystery Man Writer

Rumba on the River - a compilation put together by digger All Rights Deserved- linking Latin America to the heart of all diasporic grooves: Congo. Featuring tracks by legendary bands universally praised by their contributions to 'soukous' music, this selection presents unique songs that pay an exuberant homage to Cuban music- or 'rumba', the name collectively given to all variants of the 'son'. The very utterance of the nearly onomatopoeic word 'rumba', commands the hips to move. After all, to the Frenchspeaking Congolese,’ son' simply means the bland, generic word 'sound'. Since the 1940s Congolese musicians temporarily experimented with the biguine, merengue and the rest that Latin America offered, but the rumba would soon win over them as it seems to be the dance which most reveals the African soul. This release is only available on Cassette format. Digital Downloads of the full release are not available, only snippets.
